2 WHEELERS

  • L1 Category - A motor cycle without gear or a light two wheeled powered vehicle with maximum speed 70 kilometres per hour and engine capacity not exceeding 50cc if fitted with a thermic engine or motor power not exceeding 4.0 kilowatts if fitted with electric motor
  • L2 Category -A motorcycle or a light two wheeled powered vehicle with engine capacity exceeding 50cc if fitted with a thermic engine or motor power exceeding 4.0 kilowatts if fitted with electric motor

3 WHEELERS

  • L5 - A three wheeled motor vehicle with maximum speed exceeding 25 kmph andengine capacity exceeding 25 cc if fitted with a thermic engine, or motor power exceeding 0.25 kW if fitted with electric motor.
  • E-rickshaw - special purpose BoVhaving three wheels and intended to provide last mile connectivity for transport of passengers

4 WHEELERS

  • A Motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying passengers.
  • M1 = D + 8(max passenger), M2 = D+9(min. passenger) & GVW < 5 Ton
  • M3 = D+9(min. passenger) & GVW > 5 Ton
  • Petrol / Diesel / CNG / LPG/ Electric vehicles
  • Quadricycles (L7) L7 used for carrying passengers, having seats not more than 4 (including driver) and kerb weight not exceeding 450 kg. A Motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying goods,
  • Light, Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (LCV,MCV&HCVs)
  • Body Construction on Chassis - Bus Body Building (AIS-052+063), Truck Body Building (AIS-093), Motor Caravan(AIS-124) and Ambulance code (AIS-125)

4 WHEELERS

This section is applicable for following types of 4 wheeled vehicles:

  • A Motor vehicle with at least four wheels used for carrying goods
  • Light, Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (LCV,MCV&HCVs)
  • Body Construction on Chassis - Bus Body Building (AIS-052+063), Truck Body Building (AIS-093), Motor Caravan(AIS-124) and Ambulance code (AIS-125)

AGRICULTURAL TRACTORS / POWER TILLER

Tractors in India is a major industry and significant contributor to its agriculture output gains. Any mechanically propelled 4-wheel vehicle designed to work with suitable implements for various field operations and / or trailers to transport agricultural material. Power tillers are included in this category

CEV / COMBINE HARVESTOR

Construction equipments are special type of vehicles which has to meet the requirements with respect to the road transport regulations and also the safety requirements as a industrial product. CEV’s are designed for off-highway operations in mining, industrial undertaking, irrigation and general construction but modified and manufactured with “ on or off” or “ on and off” highway capabilities.

TRAILERS

A non-self propelled driven road vehicle having at least two wheels which on account of its design and technical features is used to transport goods and is intended to be towed by a motor vehicle. Modular Hydraulic Trailer are intended for carrying indivisible heavy or over-dimensional cargo.

RETROFITMENT

Government of India has permitted use of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) , Hybrid technology and LPG (Liquified Petroleum Gas) as automotive fuels. Accordingly, provisions related to emission, safety, installation and other requirements for permitting such conversion are also notified under Rule 115 of CMVR.
